There’s nothing like a long-waited reunion with good friends on another continent! We had booked a trip to Saint Remy de Provence in France back in the spring once we learned the Wilson clan would be spending a week there with an extended family and friends contingent (by the way, thanks for letting us crash your family vacay!). While we’re living in Spain, we’re intent on making our best effort to meet up with friends pretty much anywhere in Europe if they are traveling across the pond.
Although we ended up caught in yet another of Europe’s now-all-too-familiar summer heat waves, we still had a lot of fun as a group and managed to stay relatively cool through activities like hanging by the river at the #pontdugard aqueduct, swimming in the grandparents’ villa’s pool, and enjoying a day of wine tasting in both natural and artificially air-conditioned caves in #gigondas , #châteauneufdupape#domaingalevan , and #domainedalmeran . Seeing our kids so excited to rendezvous in the pool together was a real delight.
We also had some wonderful dining experiences with and without the kids, from the home-cooked, local market-supplied feasts at the villa to two memorable dinners in town, one at Le Roma (an ice cream place that happened to have tasty mains) and the other a four-course affair at #bistrotdesaintremy . We were glad to be among these Francophile friends who spoke enough French to navigate us through these experiences.
Finally, a big shout-out to the VRBO we stayed in in Saint Remy, which had everything we needed for a comfortable stay (including AC units 😅) as well as a fantastic host who doubled as Mary Poppins 2.0 in her babysitting capabilities.
Can’t wait to see these guys again when they visit us in Valencia next year for spring break! 😊
