Six years after our last adventure together in Iceland, one wedding, eight children in total, two new jobs, spread across four cities and an ocean between us (and a bunch of other crap going in our lives), our college crew reunited in Copenhagen for a girls trip/mamas getaway 😊We somehow managed to pin down dates and book our flights and VRBO back in March and were so ready for the quality time and restorative break that this trip offered when the time came in early October.
It was my second visit to Copenhagen but the first for the others, so one of the highlights was a bicycle tour of the city with a knowledgeable host named Rune who also shared insights about Danish history, culture, and politics with deadpan humor. We also enjoyed exploring and shopping in the eclectic Norrebro area, sampling and choosing delicious picnic provisions at Israel Plads market, and day-tripping to the Louisiana Museum or Modern Art @louisianamuseum (what a treat to spend 3+ hours leisurely taking in a stunning museum without kids 😉).
With a few serious foodies and a sommelier in our group, we feasted on memorable tasting menus at @restaurantgorilla , @restaurant_anarki , and @restaurantpluto , classic fare at @restaurantpuk , and hit the #Mikkeller taverns a few times for Danish beers and @rubycph for fancy cocktails. Despite talking some game about going clubbing, we ultimately took advantage of our collective opportunity for more sleep, and don’t regret that at all 😛 Guess our bar-hopping days in Collegetown are truly behind us as we push 40?!
Copenhagen is a terrific city, one of my favorites in Europe. But just being together over long coffees and meals with many laughs, hugs, and the occasional cries was the best part of this trip. Many thanks to the husbands, grandparents, babysitters, and supporters who made it possible and so special for us. ❤️
