On our last day in the Rhine Valley we drove a little over an hour from the Vulkaneifel for a day trip to Luxembourg, one of the smallest countries in the world. A note to other travelers: make sure you research a countryβs public holidays in advance. We didnβt, so we ended up there on the Grand Dukeβs birthday and other than a low-key parade, much was closed. Nevertheless, Luxembourg City is quite beautiful, clean, and easy to explore on foot, and we crossed another country off the list!
We were also able to visit the Luxembourg American Military Cemetery, a moving tribute to thousands of soldiers killed in both world wars, and where General George Patton is buried.
